Create a QR-bill — right here, for free

Below you can generate a valid Swiss QR code for your payment details in 30 seconds — no registration, and the data never leaves your browser. Underneath: what makes a QR-bill, when you need a QR-IBAN, and which mistakes to avoid.

Create a Swiss QR code

Runs entirely in your browser — your data is not sent anywhere.

What is a QR-bill?

The QR-bill has been Switzerland's only payment-slip standard since October 2022 — it fully replaced the red (ES) and orange (ESR) slips. Its core is the Swiss QR code with the Swiss cross: it carries all payment data in structured form, so any banking app picks it up with one scan. The binding reference is the SIX QR-bill standard.

A complete QR-bill consists of the actual invoice plus the standardised payment part (105 × 210 mm with receipt). The QR code alone — what the tool above produces — is enough for many purposes: on a letter, in an email signature, or as payment info for a client.

IBAN or QR-IBAN — and which reference?

With your normal IBAN you create a QR-bill without a structured reference (reference type NON) — fully valid, and the right choice for most freelancers. You match payments via the message field, e.g. the invoice number.

The QR-IBAN (recognisable by institution number 30000–31999) only works together with a 27-digit QR reference (type QRR). Your bank then matches payments automatically — worthwhile from a certain invoice volume. A QR-IBAN without a QR reference is invalid; that's why the tool above rejects QR-IBANs.

The third type: the Creditor Reference (SCOR, starts with RF) — the international middle ground, less common in Switzerland.

The most common DIY mistakes

The QR code is standardised: version, character encoding, field order and the Swiss cross in the centre are all prescribed. Codes built with generic QR generators fail because they only encode a URL or free text — banking apps expect the Swiss payment structure. Every field rule is set out in the QR-bill Implementation Guidelines (PDF).

Classics: amounts encoded with thousands separators, addresses over 70 characters, a QR-IBAN with reference type NON, or a code printed below 46 × 46 mm that scanners can no longer read. And the payment part of a printed QR-bill needs the perforation line with scissors symbol if it is meant to be detached.

From QR code to complete invoice

For a ready-to-send invoice, the QR payment part belongs beneath your invoice — receipt on the left, correct font sizes, and your invoice number for matching. That is exactly what Payvetia generates automatically: you enter client and service, and the PDF with the standardised payment part comes out finished — sequential number, VAT according to your profile, sent by email.

Frequent questions about the QR-bill

Yes — it follows the Swiss QR code standard by SIX (SPC, version 2.0, reference type NON) and is read by Swiss banking apps. The printed payment part with receipt has additional layout rules; for that, create the invoice directly in Payvetia.
